Scenario
New Realm was seeking to redesign its core beer variants to create a stronger visual impact for the liquid and on-shelf.
The Practical Approach
Craft beer is full of wild designs, sometimes with little thought to the overall brand. With New Realm, they have a strong brand rooted in pushing the boundaries of styles and flavors and challenging consumers to “Seek what you thirst.” Given this, we saw an opportunity with the creative refresh to build out a Brand World for New Realm.
Our Practically Dangerous Solution
Each core variant would be based on a fictional character or place within “The Realm,” giving each beer a distinct rationale, story, personality, and style, while still creating a cohesive connection to the overall brand.
The first design was Hoptropolis. We envisioned the strategy and design as a visual and conceptual representation of the beer itself — a more modern hop blend brought to a traditional IPA style — in the form of a futuristic, yet retro, art deco-style city. This beer would not only be the fictional center of the New Realm Brand World, but also the literal centerpiece of their core rebrand.
The Results
The company received such positive feedback from both internal stakeholders as well as distributors and retailers alike that they decided to continue the rebrand of their entire line of beers.
In partnership with New Realm’s internal creative team, this has grown into a wide variety of work from naming to brand stories, creative direction, label designs, POS design, and activation concepts for additional beers like Bat Wit Crazy, Hoplandia, and Groove is in the Hop. By no means do we do everything for them, but we do everything with a laugh and a smile for great clients and a great brand.
